Greencastle doubles up on Big Spring
NEWVILLE — The Greencastle-Antrim varsity boys' soccer team notched a Mid-Penn Colonial Division road win on Saturday with a 4-2 decision over Big Spring.
The Blue Devils fell behind at 17:57 of the first half when Matthew Raudabaugh tallied an unassisted goal.
G-A tied the score on a goal from Adam Murr just 18 seconds later. Vincent Castillo assisted on the goal.
Luke Bay gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal 2:12 into the second half.
After Josh Fertig scored on a penalty kick just under 10 minutes later to re-tie the match, G-A scored two unanswered goals, the first an unassisted goal by Bay and the finale by Nate Kirkwood (assisted by Gershon Bangura).
Blue Devils dominate Big Spring 8-1
GREENCASTLE — The Greencastle-Antrim varsity girls' soccer team shook off a 5-2 loss to Boiling Springs with an 8-1 win over visiting Big Spring on Saturday in Mid-Penn Colonial Division play.
Courtney Andruczk, Mia Libby, Rylee Henson and Avery Parks each scored first-half goals for the Blue Devils.
Andruczk scored two more goals in the second half, Parks added a goal, and Sydra Royer capped the scoring.
"Courtney Andruczk had an incredible game," said G-A coach Katie Herman. "Her footwork really stood out, and she possessed the ball very well. Big Spring's goalie is very skilled, so we were really forced to work hard in front of the net."
Greencastle outshot Big Spring 27-5.
"The plan going into the game was to stick to our strategy and our strengths and to play our style," said Herman. "I was very pleased with the passing and the number of players able to get a look at the goal."
Greencastle sweeps Big Spring, Northern York
DILLSBURG — In weekend action, the Greencastle-Antrim varsity girls' volleyball team swept Big Spring in the afternoon and then swept Northern York in the evening.
The Blue Devils topped the Bulldogs 27-25, 25-20 and 25-19 and beat the Polar Bears by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-19.
Against Big Spring, Lauren Pool and Audrey Garling each had six kills. Mckenzie Shatzer and Kylee Croskey collected three service aces.
Baylee Schaeffer recorded 13 digs on defense, and Madison Kirkwood had 10 digs.
Greencastle won the junior varsity match in three games, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-12. Madeline Eagler had four aces and 11 assists. Kate Fugate had four aces and two kills. Kate Furnish added five kills, and Kiley Burkholder had four kills.
Pool and Kirkwood paced the Blue Devils at the net against Northern with eight kills apiece. Shatzer recorded 23 set assists.
On the defensive side, Baylee Schaeffer and Shatler combined for 24 digs, with Schaeffer coming up with 13 of them.
G-A also won the junior varsity contest. The Blue Devils won the first set 25-17, lost 25-19 and clinched the match in the third set 15-8.
Hannah Russell had five service aces for Greencastle. Fugate had six digs, while Burkholder and Furnish each had three kills.
Blue Devils fall to Camp Hill 4-1
GREENCASTLE — Greencastle-Antrim gave up a pair of goals in each half en route to a 4-1 loss to Camp Hill, Saturday in a Mid-Penn Conference inter-divisional matchup.
"The first half of the game we played well as a team and fought for every ball. However, Camp Hill turned up the intensity towards the end of the half and we just couldn't keep up," said G-A coach Rebecca Rice.
The Lady Lions' dominance was evident in their 25-7 advantage in shots. Camp Hill also held a 9-5 edge in penalty corners.
The Blue Devils played even with the Lions until the 26th minute of the first half when Jordan Barney scored an unassisted goal. Kinsey Branner scored with 22 seconds left in the first 30 minutes with an assist from Barney.
Camp Hill added two goals in the second half, and Greencastle's Allison Reitz tallied her team's long goal with 3:34 remaining, assisted by Kaitlin Measell.
