Geneva Pearl Gossert (Shaffer), aged 77, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on May 12, 2023, at the Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA after a lengthy illness.
Geneva was born June 26, 1945, at home in Quincy Township, Franklin County, PA. She was the daughter of Woodrow Wilson Shaffer and Ida Pearl Baker, formerly of Waynesboro, PA. She attended Quincy High School, Quincy, PA. She completed her G.E.D. in 1977. She was married February 17, 1962, to Gary Dean Gossert, Sr., in Mont Alto, PA. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Mercersburg, PA. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years, member of the women’s group, serving on various committees. She particularly enjoyed assisting in making fruitcakes and easter eggs at the church.
She was a homemaker all of her life. She was involved in Girl Scouts, Band boosters, PTA, and was devoted to her family. She was an avid reader, worked with needlecraft, gardened, was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed camping every summer with the family at the cabin. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and was proud of having traveled to 49 states.
She enjoyed telling stories of her upbringing on the family dairy farm in Quincy Township.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gary Dean Gossert, Sr. of Greencastle, PA. She is survived by four children: Tina Gossert of Galax, VA; Teresa Strait of Bedford, PA; Terri Gossert of Chambersburg, PA; Gary Gossert Jr. of Greencastle, PA, 16 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dolores Turner of New Franklin, PA and Marcia Hill of Waynesboro, pa; 3 brothers, William Shaffer and Clinton Shaffer of Waynesboro, and Dean Shaffer of Chambersburg, PA. She was predeceased by 1 sister, Beverly Anne, and 2 brothers, Glenn and Edward Shaffer.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in First United Methodist Church, 11 N. Fayette St., Mercersburg and will be officiated by Pastors Richard Williams and Dan Allen. A 3:00pm private graveside service, at Mount Zion Cemetery near Quincy, PA, will be held by the family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro.
