Mr. Richard E. "Dick" Thompson, 86, of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away Monday morning, April 17, 2023, in the UPMC West Shore Hospital, Mechanicsburg.
Born February 22, 1937 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Eugene A. Thompson and Doris C. (Johns) Thompson.
He graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School with the Class of 1955.
Mr. Thompson served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He and his wife, the late Lois Ann (Toms) Thompson, were married on April 20, 1957, in Waynesboro. Mrs. Thompson died on March 8, 2017.
Mr. Thompson worked for United Telephone, later Sprint, at various locations throughout his career. He retired after more than 40 years of service with the company.
He was a member of the Camp Hill United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1191, Waynesboro, and the former B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731, Waynesboro.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed music, camping, swimming and working on home remodeling projects.
He is survived by two children, Richard Thompson, II and his wife, Terri of Olathe, KS and Beth Fetzner and her husband, David of Zions View, PA; six grandchildren; and two nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Blubaugh and one grandson.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 29, 2023 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Saturday morning, in the funeral home.
