Janet M. Keener, age 85, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Menno Haven Retirement Center. Born in Shippensburg, PA on December 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Alice Frey Horst.
Mrs. Keener was a homemaker during her working years. She enjoyed caring for her family, sewing and quilting, cooking and baking, entertaining, and serving Sunday lunch. She was a member of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, where she participated in the Sewing Circle.
Surviving are five children, Douglas L. Keener (wife Carol) of State Line, PA, Carl E. Keener (wife Cindy) of State Line, PA, Sue E. Bender (husband Dale) of Chambersburg, PA, Joy A. Martin (husband Delray) of Chambersburg, PA, and Renae M. Taglang (husband Jim) of Chambersburg, PA, three step grandchildren; eleven grandchildren, Dustin Keener, Chelsea Wetzel, Chanelle Hamilton, Derek Keener, Lake Bender, Cade Bender, Christiana Martin, Ivanna Martin, Jordan Ladzinski, Kiersten Ladzinski, and Katlyn Taglang; five sisters, Ruth Brown, Miriam Lehman, Thelma Eberly, Edna Eberly, and Joyce Landis; five step-children from her second marriage; In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband in 2001, Donald Keener, second husband, James Barnhart in 2012, two sisters, Lois Martin and Mary Lehman, and three brothers, Paul, Wayne, and Carl Horst.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 10 AM at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, 13343 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastor John Horst will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 12, 2022, from 6-8 PM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the above church and address. Interment will follow the service in the adjacent church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the above church and address. Online condolences may be offered at www.zimmermanfh.com.
