Otha Harold Atherton

Otha Harold Atherton was born on July 12th 1936 in the Waynesboro Pennsylvania Hospital to Margaret Virginia Myers-Atherton (Horst) and Wilbur Huber Atherton. He passed away peacefully with his sons Paul O. Atherton, Loren C.D. Atherton, and Daughter-in-Law Debra M. Atherton with him. Otha grew up in Greencastle, Pennsylvania attending a one room schoolhouse in his pre-High School grades before becoming a graduate of the Greencastle High School Class of 1954.

He then enlisted into the US Air Force in 1956, where he became a Crew Chief on a F-86 Fighter and eventually a Crew Chief on one of the GAM-77 Hound Dog missiles. While working as a Crew Chief on the GAM-77 Hound Dog missile, he was stationed in Puerto Rico and was there during the Cuban Missile Crisis as the ships passed by Puerto Rico on their way to Cuba. At the end of his 8-year Enlistment, he enrolled into Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. After graduation, he went to work with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) where he worked as a Personnel Manager/Training Manager until he retired here locally in Cedar Hill, TX in 1990. During his career with AAFES, he lived in many places to include some interesting locations such as Honolulu, HI, Denver, CO and Ft. Clayton, Panama.

He was preceded in death by his wife Martha G. Atherton, his Mother Margaret Virginia Horst, Father Wilbur Atherton, and Step-Father Paul Israel Horst. He is survived by his Sons and Daughters-in-Law: Paul Atherton and Debra Atherton; Loren Atherton and Elesia Atherton; Grandchildren- Justin and Jessica Chumbley, Brandon and Jessica Becvar, Brandyn and Jordan Atherton, Adam and Patricia Hamby, David and Sarah Atherton, Chelsea and Clint Smith, Kristin Hamby, and Christina Atherton. He also has eight Great-Grandchildren: Brooklyn Chumbley, Chloe Chumbley, Kameron Hamby, Liam Chumbley, Madison Smith, Lyla Chumbley, Harrison Atherton, and Harper Atherton and his Cousin Hal Myers. He was very proud of his family, and they were very proud of him and loved him dearly. He will be deeply missed.
