A local producer is looking for Gulf and Afghanistan war veterans to include in an online documentary series that focuses on the lives of former soldiers.
The series, titled HomePromise Heroes, is sponsored by Greencastle-based HomePromise Corp., a private lender to veterans, according to Liam Michael Brady.
Brady, the executive producer and director of the series, grew up in Hagerstown and lives in Maugansville. He has produced commercials for local companies and conducted video marketing.
Brady said in a phone interview that today's veterans, like those from the Gulf and Afghanistan conflicts, face unique circumstances.
They are highly motivated and highly trained, but in a lot of cases have difficulty blending into civilian life, Brady said. Many are self-employed, he said.
In the series, veterans discuss the challenges of returning home after the military and stepping away from military special forces.
Brady said he has traveled throughout the U.S., talking to veterans. Filming has been conducted in homes and hotel rooms, he said.
More than 50 veterans have been interviewed and eight of them have been filmed, Brady said. The stories are being presented as the HomePromise Heroes series on YouTube.
Brady said HomePromise thought it was a good idea to spotlight the veterans and give their stories exposure.
"People need to hear these stories, and it's free to watch," Brady said.
He wants to find veterans from the local area who might be interested in telling their stories.
Brady said veterans can reach him by email at:
