Nearly 1,500 students ran circles around Kaley Field on the Greencastle-Antrim High School track Friday morning for the seventh annual Race for Education.
The Race for Education raises money for field trips, school-wide assemblies, PTO sponsored-events, classroom grants and other educational needs of students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Since its inception, the PTO has been able to purchase additional items that the district budget could not cover, such as playground fencing, iPads and audio/visual equipment for the elementary school.
The Race for Education is held in lieu of other fundraisers, such as candy or magazine sales, by primary and elementary school students, according to Holly Kendall, vice president of the PTO and Race for Education Committee chair.
The race had exceeded its $85,000 goal before it started and the total stood at $94,425 on Sunday.
"Last year, we raised over $106,000 so I'm hoping to match that again," Kendall said.
Donations will be accepted through Nov. 10.
Donations may be mailed to Race for Education, Greencastle-Antrim Elementary School, 500 E. Leitersburg St., Greencastle, PA 17225 or made online via PayPal at the school district website:
