The Greencastle-Antrim entry in the Little League Inc. District 14 Junior (13-14) League Tournament won the title last week. This was the third Little League Inc. District 14 title for Greencastle teams at three different age levels this summer.
The hot streak that served up the Greencastle American Legion Post 373 baseball team the Franklin County title last week cooled off over the weekend in the Regional AL Tournament.
The District 14 Little League Inc. 11-12 champions from Greencastle saw its tournament run come to the end Sunday with an 11-2 loss to Glennmore Eagle in Pennsylvania Section 7 play.

Greencastle’s entry into the Little League Inc. Junior (13-14) Division won the Seciton 7 Tournament in Kennett Square last week, advancing the team to the PA State Tournament. Greencastle went 3-1 in the tourney, defeating District 23 Octorara, 8-3, and District 28 Oxford 5-3 to earn the top seed. The local team then fell to Oxford 10-3, creating a must-win Monday. Greencastle came through, beating Oxford, 14-4, winning the Section 7 championship. The state tournament is an eight-team bracket beginning July 29 in Robinson Township in Pittsburgh. The Greencastle-Antrim 9-10 Little League Inc. team collected the District 14 title in its division, closing it out with a 10-3 win over South Hanover.

The Moss Spring Sting Rays hosted their first swim meet in 25 years last weekend. The meet was held at Moss Spring Swim Club. It was a double dual meet between Moss Spring Swim Club, Fountainhead Country Club and Chambersburg Country Club, which competed at a swim meet for the first time in team history.
Greencastle Little League 11-12 District 14 Tournament Team earned its first win of District 14 double elimanation at York Monday evening with a 18-6 win over Dillsburg. Greencastle exploded for 11 runs in the fourth to put the contest out of reach.

Greencastle-Antrim senior thrower Katrina Wright put a fine exclamation point to her storied Blue Devil track and field career last weekend at the PIAA State Championships. Meanwhile, both the Greencastle-Antrim baseball and softball teams saw their postseason journeys and seasons come to an all-too-abrupt end on a steamy spring afternoon Thursday.
Wright started her championship run with a less-than-her-best distance in the shot put for 14th place, but regrouped to deliver a silver medal in the discus.
Each Blue Devil team had sailed in Tuesday’s opening round of their respective District 3-AAA Tournaments. In Thursday’s quarterfinals not much went right for the baseball team and the softball team saw its hopes of repeating as state champs dashed in extra inning dramatics.

The Moss Spring Sting Rays will begin their second season of competitive swimming this summer. The team is coached by Anthony Addlesberger and Kate Miller, and is coming off a successful first season in which it brought back a team that had been nonexistent for over 20 years. The Sting Rays begin official practice Monday, June 14 and will be offering a stroke clinic starting May 31.
