Compromise deal ends Friday gas line work during holidays

Some relief is on the way to possible problems the gas line replacement project in downtown Greencastle may have on the holiday season. A compromise will lessen the impact of the road work on the annual Greencastle-Antrim Heritage Christmas celebration by restricting the work to four days a week through the end of the year.

Greencastle couple restores log house

Commissioners propose county tax hike

CHAMBERSBURG — The Franklin County Commissioners presented the tentative county budget for 2009 last week with a proposed tax rate of 24.65 mills, an increase of 3.5 mills. Fiscal Director Teresa Beckner noted that this was the first increase in three years.

Greencastle Borough Police recently released the following incident reports (Information on any of the cases should be called to police at 597-9506.): A satellite radio receiver and brown man's wallet were stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Apple Drive overnight Oct. 31. The owner said the vehicle was locked but a rear sliding window was unlatched.

Accident fatal to Greencastle man

Matthew Alan Moats, 18, 6369 Hager Road, died in an automobile accident near Shady Grove Nov. 21. He was traveling east in a 2004 Dodge Intrepid in the 800 block of Buchanan Trail East at 5:14 a.m. and for unknown reasons crossed into the opposing traffic lane. He struck a 2004 Nissan Sable driven by Tabitha May McDonald, Waynesboro.

Developers ask for extensions

The proposed residential development at the Greens of Greencastle golf course was one of five land development plans granted 180-day extensions by Antrim Township last week. The board of supervisors Nov. 18 approved the six-month delays, as asked for by the developers and recommended by the township Planning Commission.

Free Thanksgiving dinner available

High school students expelled

Three students were expelled from Greencastle- Antrim High School following a special school board meeting Nov. 20. The board unanimously approved the recommendations of the Pupil Personnel Committee. The incidents involving three males all entailed illicit prescription drugs as well as a theft.

Buggy ride tickets ready for purchase

Tickets are now available for the horse and buggy rides which will take place during the three Friday evenings of Heritage Christmas Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Tickets are $7 for a 20- minute ride on a buggy which holds 20 people and $10 for a 45-minute ride on a buggy which holds 16 people. Childrem three years old and younger ride for free, as long as they sit on someone's lap.

Library fines cut in half

Gallery 7 to display work during holidays

Graham-Gray impresses in first ultramarathon

Greencastle resident and 2008 Olympic marathon trials qualifier Susan Graham-Gray has done some amazing things in her running career. Saturday the 40-year-old woman, who lives in Antrim Township with her husband and children and is legally blind, not only ran her first ultramarathon — she finished as the second best female in the prestigious JFK 50 Miler.
