Charlotte Sloat Lutz, 78, of 239 South Allison St. Greencastle, died at 7:24 a.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010 in her home following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 7, 1932 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Emma (Carey) Sloat.
She was a 1949 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School of Lancaster and received her B.S. degree in 1953 from the Pennsylvania State University.
She and her husband, Carlton E. Lutz were married Dec. 24, 1955 in Lancaster.
Mrs. Lutz was employed by the Greencastle-Antrim School District as a home economics teacher from 1953-57 and 1970-1996, having retired Jan. 26, 1996.
She was a member of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Deacons. She was also a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Education Association, Franklin-Fulton Home Economics Association, life member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association Retired, National Education Association Retired and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Mrs. Lutz was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association. She was also a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Loyal Daughters.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, George Albert Lutz of West Milford, N.J., Wayne C. Lutz of Greencastle and David E. and wife, Kimberly, Lutz of Greencastle; two sisters, Irene S. Bornholdt of Moorestown, N.J. and Lenora S. Koblos of San Carlos, Calif.; one brother, Harry S. Sloat of Frederick, Md.; and two grandchildren, Courtnie and Carter.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 5 in the Greencastle Presbyterian Church with Pastor Taylor Camerer officiating.
There will be no public viewing, however the family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greencastle Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 57 W. Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA 17225 or to the Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
