Ruth B. (Blackhurst) McCutcheon, 84, of 13391 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle, died at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2010 in ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg, where she had been a resident since April.
Born Nov. 23, 1925 in Cass, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Allen J. and Bessie (Kee) Blackhurst.
She and her husband, Robert D. McCutcheon, were married Oct. 10, 1947 in Cass.
She attended West Virginia University and Strayer College in Washington D.C.
Mrs. McCutcheon was a school teacher in a one room school in Spruce, W.Va. She had also been  employed in the U.S. House of Representatives for the Speaker Of The House Sam Rayburn, for the Atomic Energy Commission in Idaho Falls, Idaho and in the U.S. Department of the Navy.
She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. McCutcheon was a member of the Eastern Star in Cass and served as a leader in Jobs Daughters and Girl Scouts.
She was a former member of the Greencastle-Antrim Lioness Club and a member of the Upton Homemakers.
Mrs. McCutcheon attended the Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle.
She enjoyed being with her family, oil painting, doing arts and crafts and collecting books.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Suzanne (wife of Don) Ney of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; a son, Robert D. II (husband of Debra) McCutcheon of Frederick, Md.; and eight grandchildren.
She was the last of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel M. McCutcheon, on Aug. 3, 2002; three sisters; and one brother.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, with Pastor Richard Overcash officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Arbovale Cemetery in Arbovale, W.Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one's choice.
