Clarence "Sam" DeHart, 94, of 11508 Bemisderfer Road, Greencastle, died at 8:32 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010, in his home. He had been in failing health for the past two years and critically ill for the past seven weeks.
Born Dec. 20, 1915 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late William A. and Atha (Baker) DeHart. He lived his early life in the Waynesboro area.
Mr. DeHart attended Waynesboro schools.
He served with the United States Army 5th Division Co. A 34th in the European Theater, during World War II.
He married his wife, Ethel M. (Bingaman) DeHart, in 1982.
Mr. DeHart worked for Allen Gardenhour Electric, Waynesboro, as an electrician and later the State of Maryland as a maintenance worker for over 27 years, until his retirement in 1978.
He attended services at Calvary Assembly of God, Waynesboro.
Mr. DeHart enjoyed wood working, and carving and making clocks.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-daughters, Delores Gratton of Greencastle and Noreen Stottlemyer of Waynesboro; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Besecker of York, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion (Pentz) DeHart; three sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Dwan N. Newsome and Pastor Walter A. Stuart officiating.
Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, with graveside military honors being conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, in the funeral home.
