Jack Frederick Bonebrake Sr., 81, of 15185 Maryland Line Road, Greencastle, died at 3:35 a.m., Monday, June 28, 2010 in his home. He had been in failing health for the last four years and critically ill for the past two weeks.
Born Feb. 23, 1929 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Horace and Thressa (Etter) Bonebrake. He spent most of his life in the Greencastle area.
Mr. Bonebrake attended Brown’s Mill schools.
He and his wife, Delores Gertrude (Miller) Bonebrake, were married July 2, 1948 in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Bonebrake died June 23, 1996.
Mr. Bonebrake was employed as a brakeman and later yard master for the railroad. He worked for the Western Maryland Railroad for over 42 years.
He was a member of Harry D. Ziegler V.F.W. Post 6319, Greencastle.
Mr. Bonebrake enjoyed hunting and hunting mushrooms.
He is survived by four daughters, Victoria Daley of Greencastle, Cynthia Everetts of Greencastle, Shelby Bonebrake of Mercersburg and Cherry Barr of Waynesboro; five sons, Terry Bonebrake of Mercersburg, Allen Bonebrake Sr. of Greencastle, Ricky Bonebrake of Greencastle, Jack Bonebrake Jr. of Greencastle and Dale Bonebrake of California; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; three sisters, Sandra Beaver of Greencastle, Sue Luchs of Greencastle and Delores Neuroth of Chambersburg; five brothers, Ronald Bonebrake of Mercersburg, Rodney Bonebrake of Mercersburg, Larry Bonebrake of Chambersburg, Richard Bonebrake of Greencastle and Donald Bonebrake of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Alvin Everetts Jr.; a great grandson, Hunter Hines; two sisters, Patsy Fisher and Barbara Smith; and a brother, Eugene Bonebrake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 1 in Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church, 3664 Coseytown Road, Greencastle, with Rev. Lester Kauffman and Rev. John E. Winckler officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington Street, Greencastle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
