Rev. Paul G. Hawbaker, 91, a resident of the Quincy Retirement Home for the past five months and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2010 in the nursing home.
Born Aug. 6, 1918 in Lurgan Township, he was the son of the late Jacob and Susan (Gayman) Hawbaker.
He was employed for 36 years as a conductor on the Pennsylvania Railroad.
Rev. Hawbaker served as pastor at the Boonsboro, Sharpsburg and Battlefield Bible churches and also at several other local Bible churches.
He attended the Grace Bible Church of Greencastle.
Mr. Hawbaker was a member of the Brotherhood Of Railroad Trainmen.
He and his wife, Laura J. (Johnston) Hawbaker, were married Aug. 30, 1940 in Hagerstown. She died Aug. 15, 1998. He was the last of his immediate family.
He is survived by two daughters, Delores Kuhn of Moneta, Va. and Linda Healan of Windsor Locks, Conn.; two sons, Ronald Hawbaker of Boonsboro, Md. and Paul E. Hawbaker of State Line, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3 in the Grace Bible Church, 2327 Hoffman Road, Greencastle, with Rev. J. Herman Fisler officiating.
Burial will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.
