The person or persons who stole items from a car in a K-Mart parking lot probably have no idea what they took -- cremated remains.

State Trooper Bogarowski of the Honesdale Barracks reported that on June 16, between 1:30 and 1:50 p.m., personal items from a vehicle in the parking lot were stolen.

The thieves entered a tan-colored Buick Century owned by Marlene Pellew when she had it parked in the center lot in front of the store with the car windows open.

Bogarowski said someone removed a box containing the victim’s deceased husband’s cremated remains from the front seat. The box was green in color with the name Hessling Funeral Home printed on it. Also removed was a pack of Marlboro cigarettes.
