Greencastle man bags Pennsylvania 'Big 3'

Photos

Laverne Petersheim, 57, of Greencastle, accomplished the “Big 3” of Pennsylvania hunting in 2011. On back-to-back days he used his crossbow to take a turkey around 4:30 in the evening and then a deer around 10 the next morning. Petersheim had not run out of “luck” as the very next Saturday, Nov. 19, he bagged a 130-pound female bear around 4 p.m. with his rifle in Cameron County. The turkey was Petersheim’s first of that fowl and it sported a beard of 10.5 inches. The eight-point buck with a 20-inch spread came on the last day of the deer bow season.
