Greencastle youngster does her part

“That’s a baby like my brother,” said Alaina Leasure as she watched coverage of the Haiti earthquake with her family. Seeing the little boy with broken legs made her ask what she could do to help. With plans to take orders for Girl Scout cookies at Mikie’s already in place, Alaina wanted to also place a donation can on the counter because “lots of people eat at Mikie’s!” Leasure joined a Daisy Troop last fall and has been learning about the Girl Scout mission statement – “Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.” Restaurant owner Marty Boscolo welcomed the idea, and customers can make donations through Feb. 15. All proceeds will be given the local Red Cross office to add to Haiti relief efforts. The public can text HAITI to 90999 and a $10 donation will be added to their phone bill. Visit www.redcross.org for further information.
