A sister and brother are in jail and warrants are out for two other men in connection with last week’s bank robberies in Greencastle and Mercersburg.

The quartet used the money to buy heroin and crack cocaine in Hagerstown, according to charging documents. They all face charges of robbery and conspiracy.

Aaron Keith Helman, 37, of 124 N. Franklin St., Waynesboro, is accused of being an actual robber at both M&T at 643 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle, at 11:43 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, and M&T, 10 N. Main St., Mercersburg, at 12:53 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Jessica Ellis, 33, of 10932 Fir St., Fannettsburg, also is accused of being in the Mercersburg bank. She was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 3. During an interview with Mercersburg police, she admitted that she, Helman, Ryan Robert Roberts and her brother, William Michael Harrison, were in the vehicle on Aug. 1 and had an open discussion about robbing the M&T in Greencastle. She said Helman left the vehicle, went into the bank while the other three waited in the car and returned with cash.

He gave a teller a note demanding money and fled with more than $1,000, according to charging documents filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge Duane Cunningham.

A witness saw Helman arrive as a passenger in a gray Scion that parked nearby at 63 Eastern Ave., get out of the car, put on sunglasses and a hat and walk toward the bank. He returned a short time later and the vehicle sped off, according to the witness.

During the investigation into the Mercersburg robbery, Waynesboro police officer Bryan Chappell heard a description of the suspect and vehicle, recognized the combination and contacted Greencastle police, according to the charging documents. He positively identified Helman from a photo taken in the bank.

“Chappell has known Helman for several years as a result of his law enforcement duties,” the affidavit of probable cause said.

Ellis and Harrison, 37, also of 10932 Fir St., Fannettsburg, are being held in Franklin County Jail on $500,000 bond apiece in each robbery.

In addition to Helman, a warrant is out for Ryan Robert Roberts, 38, of Waynesboro, but with no fixed address.
