The Borough of Greencastle’s administration and finance committee is seeking input from Greencastle residents on a proposal to change borough office hours to accommodate residents who cannot visit during the day.

Ultimately, a decision to change the office hours will impact the community so it is the community’s input that is being sought, according to Eden Ratliff, borough manager

What’s proposed

Currently the borough office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the exception of holidays.

The proposal is to change the office hours to:

Monday: 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The thought process behind the proposed change is to accommodate residents who are unable to conduct business from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. because they are out of the borough, mainly those who commute out of town for work, or are otherwise unavailable during the day. Being open until 7 p.m. Monday would allow the borough office to be accessible them. The tradeoff would be closing the office at 1p.m. on Friday.

“The borough office staff cannot support having extended hours one night and not closing early another day,” according to Ratliff. “There is not enough staffing support.

“Please consider commenting on this proposal,” he continued. “Government functions at its best when the citizens it serves take part in the decision-making process.”
