Four years ago when the Greencastle-Antrim School District was hurting for support staff substitutes, human resources started a job fair that drew 70 to 80 people. Many of them are still substitutes with the district and some are employed full time.
The fourth annual substitute employee job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 20, in the gym at Greencastle-Antrim High School, 300 S. Ridge Ave.
“We’ve found a lot of quality people from this process,” said Tina Clever, human resources director.
Clever and Rosemary Izer, human resources assistant, continue to think outside the box when it comes to attracting applicants.
This year, the job fair was promoted at a booth during Greencastle Sidewalk Days.
“We talked to a lot of people and hope to see them all on Thursday,” Clever said.
Clever said she talked to moms, dads and grandparents.
“People say they have no experience, but they are there with their kids. I say, ‘That’s your experience,’” Clever noted.
She said the jobs are a good opportunity to get out of the house, keep in touch with the school district and have a flexible schedule.
The district is looking to hire for a number of substitute positions and contractors for other jobs will be on hand.
The district list includes substitute cafeteria workers, van drivers, bus aides, traffic control personnel, classroom aides, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and noontime aides.
Other agencies lined up for the job fair include:
n Source4Teachers: Substitute teachers
n Metz Environmental Services: Custodians, groundskeepers and maintenance workers
n Dale Carbaugh of TLC Transportation and possibly other bus contractors: Regular and substitute drivers
Fair-goers can bring their resumes. Support staff applications can be found on the district website and will be available Thursday.
G-A administrators will be at the fair to do on-the-spot interviews and recommended candidates will meet with Clever next week for orientation, including information on job requirements and clearances.
