Greencastle-Antrim High School Class of 2017 graduated Saturday, blessed by near-perfect weather, at Kraley Field.
Eager graduates-to-be bowed their heads as Joy El Executive Director Aaron E. Ziebarth prayed over them and then listened intently as retired Superintendent Dr. C. Gregory Hoover wished them well in their next journey.
Valedictorian Suyash Sriram and Salutatorian Cassidy Mikayla Fritz stood before nearly 220 classmates offering wise words before keynote speaker Andrew Diffenderfer, a 2001 graduate of the school and Senior Automotive Retail Strategist for Google, addressed the group.
Diffenderfer quoted automaker Henry Ford: “You can’t learn in school what the world is going to do next year,” by way of noting that a formal education is only the foundation for a house that the graduates must now build for themselves.
“Be viable, disruptive, relentless,” he urged.
Prior to the presentation of diplomas, the band “Admiral Mouse,” made up of GAHS students, accompanied Senior Choir members in presenting the song “Seasons of Love” from the Broadway musical “Rent.”
