Erie man waits two hours for Humane Society to open to adopt a small poodle.

April 24, 1987: A local man waited two hours for the Erie Humane Society to open so that he could adopt a brown poodle as a gift for a friend. Don Pellen had heard that there were others interested in the dog, held in the photo by Humane Society Executive Director Jim Smith. So he brought a chair and coffee and settled in to be first to enter the animal rescue organization on the day "Coco" became eligible for adoption. It worked: Pellen got the dog.
