The Friends and staff of the Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library in Greencastle will host an open house Thursday, Oct. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in celebration of the library's 45th anniversary. The library was first opened to the public on Oct. 12, 1963, and has grown to be an important part of the Greencastle- Antrim community. The library has a variety of programs for all ages, activities, referrals and, of course, books, movies and magazines.
The Friends, a support organization for the library, will hold a silent auction during this special evening as a fundraiser for many programs. Items for the silent auction will include: two paintings of downtown Greencastle donated by Shippensburg artist Joseph Hutson and baskets donated by members of the Friends filled with a variety of items like books, library T-shirts and sweatshirts and much more. The silent auction proceeds will benefit programs such as puppet shows, clubs, teen activities, summer reading and the fun fair open to all children of town and township, Toddler Time, Kindly Canines, Care & Share Time and the new Family Place Library.
There will be a digital slide program about the library and its programs playing throughout the evening, a "wants" display for items and upgrades needed for this 45-year-old facility, and complimentary root beer floats and other light refreshments. This is an opportunity to tour the building, to ask questions about funding, programs and all the features of this wonderful asset to the community.
The evening is open to the public. All are invited to visit.
The library is located at 305 East Baltimore St.
