Whitetail upgrades ready

MERCERSBURG — Whitetail Resort is completing $2.7 million in improvements in anticipation of the 2008-2009 ski season.

The first major terrain expansion in a decade is Sidewinder, a beginner trail over 2,800 feet in length and 80 feet wide. It has been cut and crew members are now adding trail lights and snowmaking gun towers.

Once all the towers have been set, Whitetail Resort will install 26 new Areco snowmaking guns.

A new 1,000-foot double chairlift, the Jib Junction Double, will serve the Jib Junction Terrain Park on the Lower Angel Drop Trail.

The Great Outdoors Festival will be held Oct. 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities include chairlift rides, snowmaking tours, a Euro Bungee, the Penn State Timber Sports Team, various children's activities, live entertainment, food and more. Skiers and snowboarders who purchase 2008-2009 season passes or the advantage card will receive free admission and a complimentary chairlift ride.

President and General Manager Don MacAskill is excited for the season. "This summer included the most extensive mountain improvements in the 10 years I have been at Whitetail. We are all very enthusiastic for the ski and snowboard season here on the mountain."
