George Lee Gordon
George Lee Gordon, 64, of 6201 Charlestown Road, Mercersburg, died at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 in his home. His death followed a brief illness.
Born Feb. 5, 1944 in Cove Gap, he was the son of the late Frank E. and Gertrude (Hull) Gordon. He was a life long resident of the Mercersburg area.
Mr. Gordon attended James Buchanan High School, Mercersburg.
He served in the United States Army.
Mr. Gordon was employed as a subcontractor for the Public Opinion, Chambersburg, delivering newspapers for over 30 years. He also owned and trained thoroughbred racehorses.
He was a member of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517, Mercersburg and Charlestown HPBA.
He is survived by his long time companion, Shirley "Sis" Eutzy of Mercersburg; three daughters, Marie Shriner of New Cumberland, and Meletia Shriner and Denise McFadden, both of Middletown, Pa.; three sons, Frank Gordon II of Fort Loudon, Jeff Bryan of Red Lion and Brian Eutzy of Mercersburg; a number of grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Frances Richard of N.C., Shirley Knight of Mercersburg, Betty Naugle of St. Thomas and Tina Witmer of Fort Loudon; three brothers, Harold Gordon, Howard Gordon and William "Buck" Gordon, all of Mercersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth "Esther" Gordon; and three brothers, Leonard Gordon, Calvin Gordon and Paul Gordon.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 South Washington St., Greencastle, with the Revs. John Semple and Norman Hege officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, with military graveside honors conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
