G-A field band opens with highest score

NEW OXFORD — The Greencastle-Antrim High School Field Band started off its 2008 competition season with a bang, despite the event being held indoors because of weather.

In addition to taking the top spot in the American Conference (Group 2) division, the Blue Devil band and front recorded the highest score of the night at the New Oxford Competition Saturday, Sept. 6 with a 78.1. The score was well ahead of second place Upper Dauphin (71.2). The next highest score in all the division was from Red Lions in Group 4 with a 77.8. Red Lion won the best percussion award as a standstill performance.

The G-A band is scheduled to perform during halftime of the Blue Devil at Shippensburg football game Friday, Sept. 12 in Shippensburg. It's next competition will be at the 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 competition at Hempfield High School in Landisburg.
