George F. Kennedy Jr.

George Franklin Kennedy Jr., 70, of 640 Leitersburg Road, Greencastle, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2008 in his home. He had been in declining health the past several weeks.

Born July 30, 1937 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late George F. Sr. and Sadie B. (Helman) Kennedy.

He was employed as a lathe and machine operator at Jerr- Dan Co., Greencastle, for 24 years and had previously worked at Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, for 10 years and at John Oliver Homes, Hagerstown, Md., as a finish carpenter.

Mr. Kennedy attended the Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle.

He was also a member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association and a member of the Loyal Order Of The Moose of Chambersburg.

Mr. Kennedy enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding ATVs with his grandchildren.

He and his wife, Rose A. (Jordan) Kennedy, were married May 19, 1984 in Winchester, Va.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-sons, Robert D. (husband of Shelly) Wolfinger and Ralph G. (husband of Michelle) Wolfinger, both of Greencastle; a grandson, whom he helped to raise, Kurtis A. Wolfinger of Greencastle; four adopted grandchildren, Natasha Wolfinger Kennedy, Kristopher Wolfinger Kennedy, Kayla Wolfinger Kennedy and Bret A. Wolfinger Kennedy, all of Greencastle; a brother, Arthur G. (husband of Patricia A. ) Kennedy of Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Carrie L. Summers of Frederick, Md.; seven grandchildren, Robert Wolfinger III, Elizabeth Simmers, Shelly Simmers, Tyler and Josh Simmers, Bryan Wolfinger and Damian Wolfinger; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George F. Kennedy III, on June 7, 1984 and by a sister, Ruth Mann.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, July 2 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle with Rev. David G. Rawley officiating.

Burial followed in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
