Junior Division stays unbeaten

The Greencastle-Antrim entry from the Baseball-Softball Association started pool play last week in the Little League Baseball, Inc. Junior Division (13-14) of the 2008 PA District 14 tournament with some dominating results.

After topping Shippensburg, 15-1, Greencastle went toe-to-toe with South Middleton before prevailing 3-2. Carlisle was no match in the final game of the week in a 11-4 victory.

Drew DeShong, Tyler Szaflarski and Denton Cordell each had two hits in the victory over Ship. Cordell drove in five runs with a pair of doubles. DeShong, Szaflarski, Cam Christman and Cody Young each fueled the win with doubles.

Denver Cordell had the win with the start and Nick Potter came on with three innings of relief.

Szaflarski threw a complete game, giving up just four hits in the close victory over South Middleton.

DeShong had the only extra base hit, a double.

Chad Miller had a huge day going 3-for-4 (double, triple) along with two RBIs in the win over Carlisle.

Miller also picked up the win on the mound going five and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts. Joshua Spoonhour provided an inning and a third of relief.

Greencastle concludes pool play Thursday and Friday in Newville.
