COMMUNITY CALENDAR NARFE meeting CHAMBERSBURG - NARFE Chapter 1063 will hold it's regular monthly meeting at noon on Monday, June 30 at the Family Traditions Lighthouse Restaurant. Entertainment will be provided by Marlin Barnes with a presentation entitled "Music for Marimbas." Barnes has directed the string program in the Tuscarora School District, retiring after 34 years in public schools. Barnes is well known locally for his participation in many of the local orchestras and music events, and has taught privately for 30 years. Hunting meeting LETTERKENNY - The Letterkenny Army Depot Natural Resources office invites all to attend the annual hunting application procedures meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at the Letterkenny Recreation Area. Watershed meeting WAYNESBORO - Antietam Watershed Association will hold its quarterly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at the Washington Township Municipal Building, Welty Road. Following a short business meeting, Patrick Brezler will present his informational Power Point presentation about AWA. This program will be used for presentations to various civic groups and organizations. Victorian Tea SHIPPENSBURG - The finale of this year's 7th Annual March to Destiny weekend in Shippensburg is the Victorian Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at Rocky Knolls, 303 West King St. The speaker for this year's tea is Audrey Trussell who will discuss the differences in dress for women of means and women of the lower classes during Civil War days. Trussell will use primary resources, period photographs, and will wear a costume of the period to better illustrate her talk. The group is open to any adult who has experienced a loss and who wants to learn more about the grieving process in a supportive atmosphere. The group is free of charge. Art in the Hallway HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Marie McCafferty, a Valley Art Association member, has paintings on display at Washington County Hospital's Art in the Hallway for the month of June. Her show will include the painting, "Doves in the Garden." This is a program between the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary and the Valley Art Association. Paintings may be purchased through the hospital Gift Shop. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Washington County Hospital Auxiliary. There will be two weeks of overnight camps that will focus on academics for elementary students. and three weeks of camps that will be offered to middle school and high school students that will center on leadership and adventure through experiential learning. The Council for the Arts' TGIF Brown Bag series is an opportunity to sample first rate artistic performances in an informal setting. All performances are free, but donations are gratefully accepted. Civil War seminars CHAMBERSBURG - A series of Civil War seminars will be held through the fall at the Chambersburg Heritage Center as follows: The Gettysburg Experience, July 23-27; The Men Stood Like Iron, the Iron Brigade from Second Manassas to Gettysburg, Oct. 3-5. Costs vary depending on the sessions attended. Price includes motor coach transportation for guided tours, seminar materials and some meals. Winners attend the seminar free of charge and receive an additional $100 stipend for expenses.
