Police Reports

Greencastle Borough Police recently released the following incident reports (Information on any of the cases should be called to police at 597-9506.):

A petition has been filed with the Franklin County Juvenile Probation Department concerning a 17-year-old male from Greencastle. While investigating a disturbance, Greencastle police officers found on the suspect a previously reported stolen iPOD video. The iPOD was returned to its rightful owner. The incident occurred at 10 a.m. April 24 at 300 S. Ridge Ave. The juvenile was arrested for receiving stolen property.

Police arrested a juvenile male at Greencastle-Antrim High School at 1:01 p.m. April 28 for possession of a knife on school property.

Police were at Greencastle- Antrim High School, 300 S. Ridge Ave. for the third time in a week. Two 16-year-old juveniles were cited for criminal mischief and harassment for an incident that occurred between 7:30 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. April 30. The two students had stuffed a victim's hat in a water bottle.

A 16-year-old was charged with simple assault for contact with a victim at 7:16 p.m. May 2 at the Greencastle Baseball/Softball complex. The victim had several cuts by his right eye. The defendant was arrested at the scene.

Police assisted another law enforcement agency by arresting a woman with two outstanding warrants. At 4:25 p.m. April 28 Starla Marie McCauley, 39, 22 E. Baltimore St., was taken into custody. She was transported to the Greencastle Police Department and later released to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. She was remanded to Franklin County Jail. She had failed to appear for sentencing on a driving under the influence charge and a theft by deception charge in Franklin County.

Philip Hager, 34, was charged with summary harassment after a domestic dispute at 6 p.m. April 28. According to police, he was arguing with his wife in the 100 block of West Baltimore street. He threw food on her and then his cell phone across the room. The victim said he refused to leave after she asked.

Philip George Hager, 34, 121 W. Baltimore St., was arrested for public drunkenness in Center Square at 6:58 p.m. April 30. His preliminary breath test had a result of .19 percent. He was transported to Franklin County Jail.

Paul N. Smith, 59, Altoona, was arrested for driving under the influence at 1:59 a.m. May 4. Police followed Smith from West Baltimore Street and finally stopped him on Buchanan Trail West at Lindale Avenue. His blood alcohol content was found to be .141 percent following tests at Waynesboro Hospital.

Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg recently issued the following news releases (Information on any of the cases should be called to police at 264-5161.):

Dennis Frederick Dahlmann, 53, 518 Hilltop Circle, Greencastle, was charged with retail theft at Fayetteville Antique Mall at 4:35 p.m. April 30.

AChambersburg man was arrested for driving under the influence near Gibbles Chips on SR 11 at 8:36 p.m. May 3. Michael Edward Atherton, 33, was first stopped for speeding.

Jerold W. Head, 18, Greencastle, driving a 1990 Ford Escort, was attempting to turn left from westbound SR16 onto John Wayne Drive. Eastbound Michael L. McBeth, 35, Shippensburg, was traveling straight through the SR16 intersection in a 1998 Plymouth Neon. Both drivers had solid green lights. A tractor-trailer turning right from the right hand lane of eastbound SR16 partially blocked the intersection. The front end of the Plymouth impacted the front left of the Ford at 10:05 p.m. April 21. No one was injured.

The driver of a 1994 Ford Ranger attempted to turn left onto Mason Dixon Road from the northbound off-ramp of Interstate 81 at 3:29 p.m. April 29. The 17-year-old male from Greencastle failed to yield to Naamon Goodwin, 26, Chambersburg, who was driving a 1996 Dodge Stratus straight across the intersection from Citi- Corp Drive. The Ford landed on its side in the intersection and both vehicles were moderately damaged. No injuries were reported, including two children in the Dodge.

Ricky E. Keefer, 49, Greencastle, was transported to Waynesboro Hospital following a single-vehicle accident at 9:45 p.m. April 18. According to police, Keefer failed to negotiate a left hand turn on Worleytown Road west of Grant Shook Road. His 1999 Dodge left the north side of the road, traveling into a wooded area, hitting underbrush, entering a stream and rolling onto its side. Keefer was moderately injured and later determined to be intoxicated.

Four vehicles were involved in an accident at 11:26 p.m. April 18. A 1987 Chevrolet Blazer was legally parked on the side of eastbound SR16 east of Long Lane, disabled with engine problems. Melvin D. Gsell, 50, Greencastle, was standing east of the vehicle. As Djordje Culum, 21, Waynesboro, approached the intersection from the west in a 2004 Nissan Altima, a Pontiac Sunfire turned from Long Lane east onto SR16. Culum braked and swerved to avoid impact and struck the Blazer. As that vehicle moved forward it struck Gsell, who fell and struck his head on the ground. The Pontiac did not stop.

No injuries were reported for Culum or his passengers Braniscav Milanovik, 19, Greencastle, Nikola Popik, 19, Waynesboro, or a juvenile, Waynesboro, or for Mary G. Gsell, 47, in the disabled vehicle.

A single-vehicle accident occurred at 4:38 a.m. May 4 as the result of an earlier accident. Allen B. Clites, 52, Greencastle, was traveling north on Hill Road in a 1999 Dodge Caravan. He saw a sheared utility pole and downed wires across the road from a previous traffic collision. Unable to stop in time, Clites struck the wires and pole in the northbound lane. The Dodge came to rest entangled in the wires.

A 16-year-old female is charged with Act 64 and theft for stealing prescription medication from Shanan Lee Shaffer, 36, Greencastle. The theft occurred at 4:40 p.m. May 1.
