Two music students from Greencastle-Antrim High School will perform at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association convention in Hershey April 18.
After a series of rigorous auditions, Diana Stottlemyer and Sallianne Crawford qualified for All-State honors. The concert, open to the public, will follow three days of rehearsals. It will be performed at 7:30 p.m. at the Hershey Theater.
Stottlemyer, a senior, is one of two accompanists. Crawford, a sophomore, is one of six altos in the chorus.
The path to All-State is a happy note for both girls. They each learned four pieces for the District 7 auditions in October. Both earned spots in the choir, as piano accompanist and as vocalist.
They learned new music once more for the Region 5 Choral Festival auditions and again earned the favor of the judges.
In the try-outs for All-State, Stottlemyer learned the accompaniment and vocal parts for three pieces and submitted a CD recording of her playing, all in two weeks.
Crawford learned six new choral pieces and sang before a panel of judges.
G-AHS music director Martha Fuchs is thrilled for her students.
"It is rare that a school district sees even one student go to All- States in a year. To have two in one year is absolutely amazing," she said.
"I am beyond proud of these students for working so hard and distinguishing themselves as two of the best high school musicians in the state."
