Lioness Club elects officers New officers were elected at the March 17 meeting of the Greencastle-Antrim Lioness Club, which met at Antrim House Restaurant. They are: Shirley Shatzer, president; Bonnie Speak, secretary; Betty Crumrine, project treasurer; Shirley Freeman, administrative treasurer; Sue Miller, historian; Bev Traver, assistant historian; Adele Henson, Lioness Tamer; Sharon Martin, assistant Lioness Tamer; Bonnie Coladonato, Gold Digger; Ruth Shives, assistant Gold Digger; and Jan Eppleman, Peggy Hays and Ann Pribble, directors. President Mary Witmer welcomed all, as did greeter Betty J. Fisher. After singing 'God Bless America' and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Jean Zimmerman offered the invocation. Dale Kennedy, owner of Village Green Nursery in Marion, was guest speaker. He spoke on the care and maintenance of various plants and which plants were best suited for this area. He also spoke about slugs destroying a yard in Greencastle and that he is in the process of finding the best way to deal with slugs. The Lioness Club is hosting a 'Welcome to Spring' Fashion Show and dinner at 6:30 p.m. April 29 at Kauffman Community Center. It will be a chicken and ham dinner and Bon Worth will provide the fashions. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at Carl's Drug, Willow Tree, by calling 597-7559 or 597-2214 or by contacting any Lioness member. The Lioness service project for March was to supply Easter eggs filled with wrapped candy for the Lion's Easter Egg hunt March 22. Phyllis Eshleman, chairperson for Vision Screen, informed the club that 1,322 children from Greencastle- Antrim School District kindergarten through fifth grade were screened for vision problems by the Lioness Club. The next board meeting is April 7 at Reed Machinery on North Washington Street and the club meeting is April 21. |
