Ruth E. Smith

Ruth Evelyn Smith, 81, a resident of the Quincy Retirement Home and formerly of Waynesboro and South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, died at 8:08 p.m. Saturday March 8, 2008 in the nursing home.

Born Jan. 8, 1927 in York, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Lydia (Klinedinst) Smith

She and her sisters were orphaned at an early age and were placed in the Children's Aid Society Of Pennsylvania. Frances Leiter was an active member of the organization and took Ruth to raise in Greencastle.

Miss Smith was employed as a nurses aide for over 25 years in the maternity and nursery ward of the Chambersburg Hospital.

She was a member of the Waynesboro Church Of The Brethren where she was a member of the Christian Home Builders Sunday School Class and served in the church nursery for many years. She helped in sewing lap robes that were used in local nursing homes and she also helped in making baby blankets.

Miss Smith loved children and enjoyed visiting with her family members.

She is survived by a sister, Martha Watkins of Toccoa, Ga.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Grace K. Smith, Mary E. Smith and an infant sister Edna Smith

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13 in the Waynesboro Church Of The Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro, with Rev. C. Albert Guyer officiating.

Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the nursery program of the Waynesboro Church Of The Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.
