G-AEA announces scholarship program GREENCASTLE - The Board of Directors of the Greencastle Antrim Education Foundation (GAEF) has announced the availability of applications for its Ambassador Award Scholarship Program. The Ambassador Award, a scholarship of up to $10,000 ($2,500 per year for up to four years) will be presented to one graduating senior who plans on attending an accredited technical/career school, two- or four-year college or university. The goal of the Greencastle- Antrim Education Foundation's Ambassador Award Scholarship Program is to build future leaders who are committed to service and their community. Leaders are people of character; people who hold integrity, authenticity and accountability as personal values. Leaders exhibit great courage in leading and inspiring others, in being positive role models and doing what is right ethically and morally. Leaders believe in justice, characterized by honesty and freedom from undue influence. Leaders care about others and see value and worth in all. "This is our foundation's effort to support emerging leaders in our community's youth," said Dr. Robert Whitmore, the GAEF board president. "We want to recognize leadership, community service and character and this Ambassador Award Scholarship Program will do that." Any graduating high school senior who resides in the Greencastle Antrim community is eligible to apply. Applications are now available at the Greencastle- Antrim High School and can also be picked up at the Greencastle Chamber office on Baltimore Street. Completed applications must be received by March 5. A Selection Committee will choose finalists from all applicants by mid-April. Interviews for finalists will be held in April and the selection of the grant recipient will be announced in May. The Selection Committee will consider: a student's demonstrated leadership qualities; a student's demonstrated commitment to the community through service activities; a student's achievements and potential; and a student's ambition to academic achievement and potential. The Greencastle-Antrim Education Foundation is a community, business and school district supported nonprofit organization created to provide for and enhance educational opportunities for all members of the Greencastle Antrim community.
