Lewis K. Bitner Lewis K. Bitner, 88 of 12005 Koons Road, Waynesboro, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in declining health the past year. Born June 26, 1919 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Robert B. and Avis G. Bell) Bitner. He and his wife, Evelyn I. Barnett) Bitner were married Feb. 27, 1946. Mr. Bitner was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and served as a treasurer of the Sunday school. He was employed by the former Leonard Fry Stone Quarry in Zullinger, and last was superintendent for Martin Marietta, Pinesburg, Md. stone quarry. He attended Antrim Grove and Greencastle schools. Mr. Bitner was a United States Army Veteran of World War II serving in Europe, Africa and the Middle East theaters. He was a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 of Greencastle and a member of the national AARP. Mr. Bitner enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a daughter, Emma L. Berger of Waynesboro; two sons, Robert L. Bitner of Greenville, N.C. and Roger W. Bitner of Greencastle; a brother, Arthur Bitner of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Walter "Pat" Bitner, and three sisters, Julia Green, Anna Jumper and Leah "Peg" Swisher. Services were held the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 8 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greencastle, with Revs. Martin H. Horn, Donald Bohn and Joseph Baer officiating. Burial with military graveside honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post 1599 Honor Guard was in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M.
