William D. "Bill" Kimmel

William D. "Bill" Kimmel, 76, of 14337 Greenview Dr., Greencastle, died at 3:55 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 in Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro.

Born Nov. 13, 1931 in Somerset, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Elsie (Maust) Kimmel. He spent his early life in Somerset.

Mr. Kimmel graduated with the 1950 class of Somerset High School.

He served with the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division, stationed in Germany.

He and his wife, Gloria C. (Sheeler) Kimmel were married in 1952 in Cumberland, Md.

Mr. Kimmel was employed as a television repairman by the former Elliot's TV Repair, Greencastle, from 1956 to 1973. In 1973 he began employment as a carrier and clerk with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of Greencastle Church of the Brethren, Greencastle, Mount Pisgah Lodge 443, Greencastle, Zembo Shriners, Harrisburg, Franklin Co. Shrine Club, Waynesboro, The Southern Penn Scottish Rite Club, Harrisburg Consistory, where he was a 32nd Degree Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Harrisburg and a life member of Harry D. Ziegler VFW Post 6319, Greencastle.

Mr. Kimmel enjoyed hunting, traveling and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, his is survived by a son, Dennis J. Kimmel of Greencastle; two grandchildren; four sisters, Pauline Bell of Florissante, Mo., Dorothy Nair Fries of Mercersburg, Jean Ann Whipkey of Clinton and Betty Nair of Rockville, Md.; two brothers, Robert Kimmel of Hermitage and Harry Kimmel Jr. of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin infant son, Delmus R. Kimmel; a sister, Ethel Mae Bell; and a brother, Ray Kimmel.

Services were held the morning of Saturday, Jan. 19 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle with Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. Masonic services were conducted by his lodge prior to the service.

Burial followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
