Hafer receives 4-H memorial scholarship

JESSICA HAFER
A Greencastle teen was one of two recipients of the AJ Hartman 4-H Memorial Scholarship.

This year's recipients are Jessica Hafer, Greencastle, and Jaclyn Upperman, Chambersburg. They each received a $500 scholarship at the 4-H Beef Roundup.

Jessica is the daughter of Jennifer Rotz of Greencastle. She is attending Kaplan College majoring in Criminal Justice. Hafer, a three year 4-H member, states about her years in 4-H, "By spending time with my fellow members

have learned family and friendship values that are important everywhere you go-they have taught me respect, responsibility, and how helping others will come back to help you."

Jaclyn Upperman is the daughter of Steve and Jane Upperman and is attending Shenandoah University in the Nursing program. Jaclyn, an 11-year 4-H member, says about her 4-H experiences, "The most important character trait that

learned from 4-H was working with people--whether it was learning showmanship and competition values or experiencing the difference in family life as I traveled and lived with my host families on 4-H exchanges."

Thanks to many supporters the Aaron (AJ) Hartman Memorial 4- H Beef Scholarship was established in 2000. To date $4,500 has been awarded to nine 4-H members.
