A couple of close games punctuated the week in Greencastle Antrim athletics.
Boys' Basketball
Greencastle-Antrim traveled to Northern Wednesday night for a non-league boys' basketball game. Dameatric Scott knocked down the game-winning shot with 1.2 seconds remaining and stole the inbounds pass to give G-A the 47-45 victory.
Despite scoring just four points in the first quarter, the Blue Devils went into the half with a one-point lead. They stretched the lead out in the third quarter making it a 36-29 lead going into the final quarter.
Jordan Gembe hit four treys as he led the Devils with 15 points. Scott added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Jordan Statler chipped in with eight points.
In the junior varsity game, the Blue Devils sailed past Northern 52-36. Christian Hoover dropped 13 points, while Seth Group added 11.
The Blue Devils hosted West Perry in a non-league game Friday night. The 69-31 blowout helped G-A get back on track after a close game Wednesday night that came down to a last second shot from Scott.

The Devils gained some momentum just 12 seconds in when Levie Holman lobbed a pass from the three-point line to Scott, who dunked it over a West Perry defender. G-A built a 17-8 lead after the first quarter.
Scott continued the show in the second quarter when he stole a pass and took it down for a monsterous one-handed dunk. Just 10 seconds later on the other end, Scott swatted a shot attempt into the stands. The Devils kept things going and went into the half with a 35-15 lead.
G-A went on an 18-4 run to start the third getting points from Scott, Holman, Gembe, Statler, Rusty Cordell, and Trevor Ile. Included in the run was another one handed jam from Scott. The Devils outscored the Mustangs 22-8 in the third giving them a 34 point lead going into the fourth quarter.
The starters took a seat a few minutes into the fourth quarter and the reserves finished things up. The Devils didn't allow more than eight points in any quarter as they went on to win 69-31.

Scott finished with 29 points and eight rebounds, as Rusty Cordell added 12 points. Holman contributed seven points and six rebounds, while Statler added six points and seven boards.
In the junior varsity game, Nathan Pool netted 17 points for the Devils in their 48-35 victory over West Perry. Seth Group added 11 points.
Girls' Basketball
Greencastle-Antrim hosted Northern Wednesday night for a non-league showdown. The Blue Devils gained a 52-49 lead, but couldn't hold on to it as they fell 53-52 in the final seconds.
The Devils jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, and grabbed a 15-9 lead after the first quarter led by Cali Schroyer and Rebecca Rider. However, the Devils were outscored in the second quarter and were trailing 25-22 at halftime.
Neither team dominated the third quarter as the Devils were still trailing by three points at the end of the third. After finding themselves down 49-44 with just under four minutes to go, the Devils went on an 8-0 run and regained their first half lead.

Katrina Wright started the rally with an inside bucket. Rider cut the deficit to one after a Northern turnover by sinking two foul shots. Wright blocked a lay-up attempt and the G-A got the ball back with a chance to take the lead. Schroyer got the dish from Rider and put it in for two to give Greencastle a 50-49 lead.
ANorthern player was fouled but missed the front end of the one-and-one and Greencastle got the ball back. Rider found Schroyer down low and Schroyer netted a two-pointer to give G-A a three-point lead with 1:12 to go and forced a timeout from Northern.
Northern ended the rally with an uncontested lay-in that cut Greencastle's lead to one with a minute to play. The Devils missed a couple shots on their end, and Taylor Kern was eventually fouled with 22 seconds left. With G-A in the bonus, she went to the line for two shots but couldn't convert either and Northern got the ball back.
After a missed shot, Northern converted the put back with 7.6 seconds left to go up by one. Rider dribbled downcourt and passed it to Kern, but the ball bounced off Kern and got loose and time expired before the Devils could get a shot off.
Schroyer and Rider combined for 42 of G-A's points. Schroyer led with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals and Rider added 20 points, while Wright chipped in with four.
In the jayvee game, the Blue Devils outscored Northern 28- 16 in the second half as they went on to win 41-22. Caitlyn Hoover netted 15 points, while Rachelle Piper added nine points. Wendy Wolff had eight points, and Charmayne McFad- den contributed with six points.
Friday's game at West Perry was rescheduled for Jan. 10 at West Perry Middle School, with the jayvee game at 6 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 7:30.
Wrestling
The Blue Devils fell 64-6 to a powerful Boiling Springs team in a Mid-Penn Capital Division match on Thursday.
Matt Copenhaver was the only Blue Devil to record points, with his pin in 5:31 at 189. Tyler Ezolt stuck with his opponent at 135, but fell 4-3 in triple overtime. This was a great improvement to his 13-6 loss to the same opponent at the Carlisle Tournament earlier this season.
Seth Shindle held his opponent to a low score, but didn't rack up any points himself in a 3-0 loss at 152. Todd DeWalt kept things close at 160 before falling 4-0.
G-A ended with a 1-5 record at the Canner Dual Tournament Friday and Saturday at Biglerville. Carlisle, Dover, Brandywine Heights, Littlestown, and Pottsville all served losses to the Devils. GA's victory was a 53-28 win over Oley Valley.
Matt Copenhaver went 5-0 at 189 with two pins and one major decision to lead the Devils, while Donald McAtee went 3-1 with two pins at 145. Dylan Schaeffer (140), Shindle (152), DeWalt (160), and Kyle Hansen (285) each went 3-3 while Ken Reid went 2-2 at 215. Schaeffer and Hansen each racked up two pins, while Shindle and DeWalt had one pin apiece.
Middle school
Boys' basketball
The freshman Devils did what needed to be done in the first half which gave them the edge they needed in their 52-40 victory over West Perry.
The Devils came out with a lot of energy and got off on the right foot. Their defensive pressure gave them several easy buckets in transition. G-A outscored West Perry 19-8 in the first quarter and again 17-8 in the second quarter to gain a 20 point lead at halftime.
Greencastle was outscored by a total of eight points in the second half. Their strong first half gave them enough of a lead to hold on to the victory.
Jared Grove led all scorers with 23 points. Dan Combs and Seth Sprague each netted eight points, while Dustin Kelbaugh added seven.
