Stephanie Lauren Zeis

Stephanie Lauren Zeis, 18, of 9597 McClanahan Road, Greencastle, died Sunday evening, Dec. 30, 2007 at the scene of an automobile accident in Penn Township Cumberland County.

Born March 9, 1989 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of Doug and Brenda G. (Mowen) Zeis of Greencastle.

She was employed as a groomer at PetSmart in Hagerstown, Md.

Ms. Zeis was a 2007 honor graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School and attended grooming academy in Frederick, Md.

She was a three-year varsity softball player, having played on three division teams (2005, 2006 and 2007) and her team claimed the Mid-Penn Conference Championship in 2007.

Ms. Zeis had played softball since she was 8 and was also a member of the 2001 National Slow Pitch Softball team that played in Kentucky and a member of the National Fast Pitch Team that played in Alabama.

She loved her family, hunting, deep sea fishing and going to the beach.

Ms. Zeis loved small animals and worked as a volunteer at the Washington County Humane Society in Hagerstown.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Tiffany Zeis and her fiancé Dustin Beaver of Greencastle; paternal grandparents, Stephen and Bonnie Zeis of Greencastle; aunt and uncle, Angie and Mark Miller and cousins, Morgan and Chad Miller, all of Greencastle; aunts and uncle, Sharon Stoner, Sybil Kerlin, Tonya Mowen, Judy Harrison and Ronnie Mowen and families; and boy friend Jeff Ensor of Shrewsbury.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arlene and Eldon Mowen.

Services were held the morning of Saturday, Jan. 5 in the Antrim Brethren In Christ Church, Kauffman, with Rev. Ky R. Searcy and Rev. Joseph L. Stahura officiating.

Burial was in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.
