Ruth E. Palmer

Ruth E. (Smith) Palmer, 65, of 9370 Antrim Church Road, Greencastle, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 17, 2007, in her home.

Born Feb. 28, 1942 in Warfordsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clem G. and Anna Lee (Smith) Smith.

Mrs. Palmer graduated from Southern Fulton High School with the Class of 1959. She later graduated from the Harrisburg Nursing School in 1962.

She and her husband of over 45 years, Ray A. Palmer, were married July 28, 1962 in Whips Cove Church, Warfordsburg. They have resided in Greencastle since 1970.

Mrs. Palmer was a nurse at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Berkley Springs Memorial Hospital, Berkley Springs, W.Va., and Western Maryland Center, Hagerstown, Md.

She was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church, Greencastle.

Mrs. Palmer enjoyed being an active member of her church, spending time with her grandchildren, and reading.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Renee L. Goodwin of Greencastle; one son, Scott A. Palmer of Greencastle; four grandchildren; one step-grandchild; six sisters, Nancy J. Northcraft of Warfordsburg, Pat Smith of Three Rivers, Calif., Faye L. Smith of Heavener, Okla., Marjorie M. McGuire of Warfordsburg, Leona B. Hahn of Everett and Brenda L. Lawrence of Harrisburg; one brother, Leon R. Smith of Warfordsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Seth M. Parrish and Allen L. Smith.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Otterbein United Brethren Church with Rev. David G. Rawley officiating.

Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Women's Missionary Association, C/O Otterbein United Brethren Church, 146 Leitersburg Street, Greencastle, PA, 17225.

Arrangments were handled by Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle.
