George L. Crouse

George L. Crouse, 78, of 13226 Gearhart Road, Greencastle, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 in his home. He was in failing health for the past six months and critically ill for the past three weeks.

Born June 3, 1929 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late William J. and Bertha May (Koons) Crouse. He lived most of his life in the Waynesboro and Greencastle areas.

Mr. Crouse attended school in Zullinger.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, serving as a Tank Commander. He was the recipient of the bronze star.

He and his wife, Nancy L. (Brisbin) Crouse, were married June 19, 2003 in Greencastle. Mr. Crouse moved to the present residence in the early 1980's.

He and his late brother, Ralph Crouse, owned and operated Crouse Brothers Construction for over 20 years.

Mr. Crouse was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Ward II in Chambersburg.

He enjoyed motorcycles, working outside, working with wood and traveling.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. "Sheri" Oberholzer of Waynesboro; two step-daughters, Nancy H. Minnick of Lancaster and Michelle T. Piper of Shippensburg; two grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; three greatgranddaughters; three step-greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Betty Freeman of Waynesboro and Jean Shifler of Delaware; one brother, Paul Crouse of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.

Services were held the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 20 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Elder Matthew S. Hurley officiating.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, with military graveside services conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599 of Chambersburg.
