Greencastle United Soccer Club completes successful fall season

The U12 girls' team won its division. This weekend marked the last games of the season for the Greencastle United Soccer Club.

Greencastle teams had an excellent season with the U12 girls and the U12 boys ranked first in their divisions. The U10 girls, U9 boys, U10 boys and U14 boys finished second in their respective divisions.

The U10 girls ended the season with a 0-0 tie against Boiling Springs finishing the season 6-1- 1.

The U12 girls had a rough game against the Boiling Springs. An amazing unassisted shot from midfield by sweeper Teri Minteer won the game (1-0) and the first place title with a 6- 1-1 record.

The U18 girls, 3-1-3 for the season, had a late game against Camp Hill.

The U9 boys played two games Saturday. The first game was against first place Dillsburg and Greencastle suffered a 2-0 loss. The U9 second game was a 4-3 Greencastle victory over Carlisle. Ian Gelsinger hit a solid shot from the perimeter of the 18 for the first goal. Hunter Barnes led the offensive attack by adding three more goals as the team finished 6-1-1.

The U10 boys suffered a 4-1 loss to the Campbelltown Lions. Austyn Smith scored the lone goal for Greencastle. Casey Hoover made four saves and Matthew Kline made 10 saves in goal as the team finished 5-1-2 for the season.

The U12 boys beat Hawkrock 5-2. Scoring for the team were Steve McFetridge (two), Justin Hovey, Kurt Hansen and Andrew Peterson. The team members scoring in the 3-3 tie with the Rheems Raiders last week were Connor Statler, Zach Faulkner and Andrew Peterson.

The U12 boys ended undefeated with a 5-0-3 record.

The first of two Saturday games played by the U14 boys ended in a 5-0 loss to first place Gettysburg. The team was able to turn things around in the afternoon game with Harrisburg, winning 4-1. Scoring for Greencastle were Corey Meyers (two), Cody Young, and Taylor Kirkpatrick.

The U14 boys finished with a 5-3 record.
