Friendship Sunday

Veteran celebration

CHAMBERSBURG - A Community Veteran's Day Celebration will be held at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at Christian Life Church, 1400 Warm Spring Road. All veterans and their families are invited to come, as well as the community to honor them. Veterans will be recognized by branch of service. Also, they will receive gifts and a luncheon for all will follow the celebration.

Christian Walker will be the special guest speaker and vocalist.

Memorial service

CHAMBERSBURG - Lutheran Home Care Services, Inc.'s Hospice of the Good Shepherd will hold its annual Memorial Service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Ave.

A special part of the service will be remembering clients who have died between Oct. 1, 2006 and Sept. 30, 2007. A special invitation is given to all families and friends of those clients, but the service is open to anyone who has lost a loved one.

Hospice of the Good Shepherd is a special team of people dedicated to caring for those living with a terminal illness and their families. It is a program of Lutheran Home Care Services, Inc., a ministry of Lutheran Social Services of South Central Pennsylvania.

Stewardship banquets

Joy El Ministries, provider of the Released Time Bible Program and Camp Joy El, invites the public to attend the annual stewardship banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at Camp Joy El.

The banquets are open to anyone involved in Joy El Ministries' programs or to anyone wanting to learn more about Joy El's programs. In addition to learning more about Joy El's programs, guests will hear testimonies from students and volunteers on how their lives have been impacted and changed through those programs.

Father-son retreat

WILLIAMSON - Camp Joy El will hold its fall Father-Son retreat, designed for sons in grades 1 through 8 and open to fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers and father figures who want to spend some man-to-man time with that special boy in their life will be held Nov. 16 to 18. This retreat will encourage renewed relationships between men and their sons by focusing on issues and activities that interest and affect guys.

The retreat speaker is Paul Ostoich, associate pastor of family ministries, of Tri-State Fellowship in Hagerstown, Md.

The Father-Son retreat will be held Friday, Nov. 16 to Sunday, Nov. 18. Fathers can be dads, granddads, step-dads and father figures. Dads and sons will enjoy the gym, go-karts, mini-golf, father-son games and much more.

The cost is $113.25 for father/son pair and $51 for additional sons.

Ministry team

MAUGANSVILLE, Md. - Maugansville Bible Brethren Church, 17904 Binkley Ave., will host the Encounter Revival Ministry Team Nov. 11 to 15. Services will be Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. and

week nights at 7.

The Encounter Team uses a variety of ministry methods including drama, music, testimonies and Bible teaching. A program has been planned for all ages, so adults, teens, and children are encouraged to attend.

Christmas concert

CHAMBERSBURG - St. Paul Special Events will host the Chambersburg Area Senior High School Choristers and Esquires in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 in the church nave, 750 Norland Ave.

There is no admission charge for the concert. A free-will offering will be taken. Everyone is invited to a reception following the concert.

Adventure Club

Children in grades 3 to 5 are invited to come join Adventure Club Wednesdays at First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St.

Book discussion group WAYNESBORO - The Book Club Discussion Group of the Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., invites readers of any age to join weekly discussions of various fiction and non-fiction selections at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday in the church's parlor.

The group is beginning its fall reading list with Robert Egger's Begging for Change. Other books on the fall list include Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, and the Handbook for the Soul, Edited by Richard Carlson & Benjamin Sheild.

The entire book list is not yet final, but other books under consideration for the year include Mark Lilla's The Stillborn God: Religion, Politics, and the Modern West , James Michener's The Source, and James Fowler's Stages of Faith: The Psychology of Human Development and the Quest for Meaning.

New schedule

Effective Sunday, Sept. 2, Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., returned to 9:30 a.m. for Sunday School and 10:45 a.m. for the Worship Service. A Service of Holy Communion is held on the first Sunday of every month. The Saturday evening informal Holy Communion remains the same time of 5:00 p.m. each Saturday. Rev. Martin H. Horn is pastor. The church is handicapped accessible. Visitors are cordially invited to attend.

Additional service

Tri-State Fellowship, an Evangelical Free Church, 13153 Cearfoss Pike, is offering an additional Sunday service. The new service, called The Bridge, starts at 11 a.m. This service is designed to connect today's generation with future generations and will feature progressive and energetic worship as well as varied elements to engage the worshiper in a multi-sensory worship experience.

Tri-State Fellowship also offers two Sunday services at 9:15 a.m.: Classic Tri-State, featuring an informal atmosphere and contemporary worship. The Heritage Café also meets at 9:15 a.m., in the Café rooms, and features hymns and vintage choruses and interactive sharing followed

by a live video telecast of the sermon from the Classic service.
