Miniature artifacts on display at museum

These items: a silk purse; a miniature English to German dictionary; a Chambersburg, Greencastle, and Waynesboro Street Railway ticket book; a miniature Children's Bible storybook; and a piece of Mont Alto iron ore all have their own stories to tell. Although miniature in size, their stories are sometimes a huge part of our history - whether it's family, local, state, or national.
Allison-Antrim Museum will host open houses from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 and from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 at 365 South Washington St.

The special exhibit will be "History in Miniature." History books are compilations of stories or accounts of events that have taken place in the past. Historytype museums focus on sharing and educating visitors about the items in their collections and how and why they are part of history. Each artifact, textile, or archive is a bridge which connects the past to the present and each bridge connects to a different path because each story is different.

The very small artifacts in exhibits, which are intermingled among much larger items, often get overlooked, in spite of the fascinating stories each piece has to tell. These stories are the chapters in the history books which tell one about daily life, culture, industry, transportation, etc. A different perspective will be realized by highlighting very small artifacts together in their own exhibit, which will help visitors gain new insight and appreciation for the value of the miniature items in life.

There is no charge for admission, but donations are accepted.
