C-burg parade set Nov. 17

CHAMBERSBURG - Chambersburg's most anticipated holiday event, the 38th Annual Holiday Parade, will kick off the 2007 holiday season Saturday, Nov. 17. F&M Trust is the official sponsor of this year's parade.

The parade participants step off at 6:30 p.m. from King and Main streets and will proceed south on Main Street, east on Washington Street, and north again on Second Street, completing the one-mile parade route at Second and Grant streets. The official judging stand will once again be located in the first block of South Main Street, in front of Olympia Candy Kitchen.

Companies and community organizations are encouraged to participate in the parade with floats and marching unites decorated with holiday themes. The deadline for entries is Nov. 2. To obtain an entry form, contact the Downtown Business Council at (717) 261- 0072 or dbc@innernet.net

The Holiday Parade has successfully evolved into the formal kickoff of the Christmas season for many Chambersburg residents. Traditionally, the Christmas season is ushered in at parade's end by Santa lighting the downtown's Christmas tree. Last year, Santa arrived on the Pioneer Train float, a replica of the historic train, created by students at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center (FCCTC) and sponsored by the Downtown Business Council (DBC). This year, the FCCTC and the DBC are working to add a caboose. Future years will see cars added to The Pioneer.

For more information on the parade, contact the Downtown Business Council at (717) 261- 0072 or dbc@innernet.net
