Youth socceer teams stay the course

It was another outstanding week for Greencastle United Soccer Club with six wins and one loss.

Hannah Crist scored two goals for the U10 girls soccer team to defeat the Hanover Soccer Cats. They are back in first place in their division with this win. Rachel Hain and Jenay Faulkner shared the position of goalie for the 2-0 shutout.

The Newville Whirlwinds were crushed by the U12 girls by the score of 5-1. Hannah Westley scored two, Tabby Rudy, Jane Herman and Alicia Crider all scored one goal. Chloe Hoover did an excellent job in goal.

The U18 girls had a tough match against the Boiling Springs Lady Bubblers and suffered a 3-1 loss.

Mercersburg Avalanche had no chance against the Greencastle U9 boys team. At halftime Mercersburg was in the lead with a 1-0 score. In the second half, Hunter Barnes scored two goals and Luke Herman scored one in the 3-1 United come from behind victory. Joe Eberhardt did an amazing job in goal. The U9 boys team is tied for first place in their division.

In the U10 boys contest, Austyn Smith and Sam Parker each had a goal in their 2-1 win against Mechanicsburg. At halftime Mechanicsburg was up 1-0, but Robert Browning, Jared Spoonhour, Corey Monn, Jordan Lescallet and Daniel Kephart in defense denied any more goals in the second half. Casey Hoover and Matthew Kline shared goalie.

The U14 boys had an outstanding game defeating the West Shore Sting Rays 10-1. Scoring for the team were Taylor Kirkpatrick with three, Cody Young with two, Chad Sullivan with one, Corey Meyers with three and David Spinder with one goal. Josh Spoonhour did not allow a score while playing goalie and nearly scored when his shot deflected off the post when he was brought up to play offense.
