Be careful what you ask for. You just may get it.

Members of Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Drive in Greencastle, put out the word that they needed used books two months ago. People responded in a big way.

Therefore, the Third Annual Used Book Sale on Nov. 1-3 is going to offer close to 12,000 books at bargain prices. But who's counting?

Oh, the Book Committee is. They have been sorting through every tome, pricing, classifying, boxing. Come next Thursday, a tidy display of the books will welcome visitors to the church.

Proceeds of the sale will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County, and other charities. Spokesman Doug McCullough said in the past that has included Waynesboro Human Services, Boys and Girls Clubs of Chambersburg, the McConnellsburg Food Bank and others.

The books will be categorized to make shopping easier. Titles fall into every genre: fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, religious, biographies, history, medical.

"We have lots of military history this year, and 1500 children's books," said McCullough.

The committee priced the books from a quarter to three dollars, though some unique books will be higher. They also have box lots. On Saturday, as incentive to move the books out, they will be offered at $6 per bag. And buy three bags, get one free. Any leftovers will be donated to other organizations for their charity sales.

"We've been pricing for weeks," said Phyllis McCullough. "You can't wait until the last minute."

During the three-day event, a snack bar of sandwiches, soups and drinks will also be available. As many as 30 volunteers are working together on the fundraiser. They will be staffing the booksale on Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Nov. 3 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Jason Drive is located off Williamsport Pike just south of town.
