Newville site of state Sunday School convention

NEWVILLE - The 145th Annual Pennsylvania State Sunday School Convention will be held on Oct. 19 and 20 Cumberland County. The host church will be Newville First Church of God, 475 Shippensburg Road.

The theme for the 2007 convention will be "The Word of God is Not Restricted."

More than 300 delegates from across Pennsylvania, representing churches in about 27 counties, are expected to attend.

The convention program will feature a special speaker on Friday evening, a "family program" on Saturday afternoon, special music, workshops and seminars, displays and exhibits, free literature and much more.

The speaker for the Friday evening general session will be Rodney L. Pry, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association. Rod came to the association in 1990 and has served as Executive Director of the organization since 1998.

The Saturday afternoon general session will feature a special presentation by "HUG," a group of children, ages 5 to 12, from Hummelstown United Church of Christ. Their program will feature music, puppets and much more. This "family program" is open to all persons of all ages; families are especially encouraged to attend and to bring their children. Persons need not be registered for the convention to attend either the Friday evening or Saturday afternoon general sessions.

Throughout the two-day event, there will also be more than 25 different workshops offered during five workshop sessions. Each of the different workshop sessions will feature workshops for teachers of children, teachers of youth, teachers of adults and for Sunday School and church leaders, plus a number of "general interest" workshops.

All Sunday School and other Christian education teachers and leaders are invited to attend.
