Blue Devils blank Susquenita

COVE - The Greencastle- Antrim Blue Devils steamrolled over Sesquenita Friday in their fourth shutout of the season. After a slow start in the first half, the Devils rallied for 28 third quarter points to win 42-0.

G-A found the scoreboard on their second possession. They started on their own 41 and sophomore Brett Phillips entered the game at quarterback. Adam Ritchey moved from the quarterback position to run a reverse for 15 yards. Meyers found Ritchey in the endzone on a fade route on his first pass attempt of the game. Rusty Cordell's PAT put the Devils up 7-0 just six minutes into the game.

After the defense forced the Blackhawks to punt, the Devils started their next drive from their own 20. Ritchey moved back to quarterback and found Cordell for a 20-yard completion. Later in the drive, Ritchey ran it himself for 28 yards on a bootleg leaving the devils on the five yard line. On third and goal, Ritchey's pass was deflected and intercepted for a touchback. The defense did their job again forcing a threeand out.

The Devils started their next possession from their own 28. On the first play, Meyers hooked up with Cordell again for a 33-yard completion down to the Blackhawk 39. Dustin Barry contributed on the drive with a 13- yard run. From the Sesquenita 13-yard line, Meyers rolled out to the left and found Ritchey cutting across the middle for their second touchdown. Cordell converted the PAT to give the Devils a 14-0 edge. Matt Copenhaver and Cordell each had interceptions later in the quarter, but the Devils couldn't find the end zone. They went into halftime leading 14-0.

Cordell recoverd a fumble on the first play of the half to set up the Devils on the Sesquenita 19. Barry found the end zone on the next play. Cordell's kick put the Blue Devils up 21-0 just 20 seconds into the half.

The defense held strong again forcing another three-and-out giving G-A the ball on their own 36. After finding themselves in a third-and-16 situation, Meyers dropped back with plenty of time and found Ritchey open for a 39- yard completion taking the Devils down to the seven yard line. Meyers finally converted on fourth-and-goal with a six yard touchdown run. Cordell's kick was perfect again giving G-A the 28-0 lead.

On Sesquenita's first play of their next possession, Ritchey had an interception and returned it for 36 yards. The PAT was blocked but the Devils still led 34-0. The final touchdown of the quarter and of the game came when Barry took it to the right and cut back to the left and took it down the left side. Ritchey found Alex Izer on the fake field goal for a two-point conversion to give G-A a 42-0 lead. The fourth quarter went scoreless and the Devils went on to win 42-0.

The Devils racked up 413 yards of total offense. Barry led all other rushers with 104 yards on 11 carries as Ritchey ran for 66 yards on eight carries. Stephon Walker contributed 49 yards on five carries. Meyers threw for 118 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a third touchdown. Ritchey caught three passes for 76 yards, while Cordell caught two passes for 53 yards.

Copenhaver led the defense with seven tackles and one interception. Jared Smith chipped in with four tackles and a sack.

In the junior varsity game, the Blue Devils came up with a 28- 14 victory.

The Devils will host East Pennsboro Friday at 7:30 p.m. for their homecoming game.
