Greencastle Church of God honors pastor and wife

PASTOR FLOYD AND DOTTIE MYERS
Pastor. Friend. Visionary. Mentor. These are just a few titles or roles that the Rev. Floyd Myers has had in his 30 years within the Church of God ministry.

As a way of showing its gratitude to its pastor and his wife, the congregation of the Greencastle Church of God, 4480 Buchanan Trail West, invites the public to a Pastor and Wife Appreciation Day Sunday, Oct. 14 in both the morning and evening worship services. Morning Worship starts at 10:30 a.m. with Sunday School starting at 9:30 a.m. Pastor Gary Boor from the Spring Meadows Church of God will be the guest speaker. The evening service, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will feature special music. There will be a fellowship reception following the evening service of special music.

Pastor Myers, known widely throughout Franklin County, started the Greencastle Church of God 21 1/2 years ago after serving over eight years as Associate Pastor at Clayton Memorial Church of God in Mercersburg. He and his wife Dottie have been devoted Christians, serving their congregation and others with thousands of hospital and home visitations, teaching and ministering to the unsaved and sharing their love of Christ to those who they come into contact with.

"Pastor Floyd and Dottie are special people," said Dr. Gene Rice, who serves as the Spirit Care Director for the Church of God International Headquarters in Cleveland, Tenn. and former Administrative Bishop for Pennsylvania. "The number one pre-requisite for being a good minister is being a faithful member. They have been loyal to their post, faithful in their tithes, and in support of the min- istry."

"A man of God, a man of faith, and a man whose heart is full of compassion is how I would describe Pastor Floyd Myers," said Rodney Jeffords, Administrative Bishop of PA. "And his wife, Dottie, is by his side. They love the Lord and are passionate about serving Him and taking take of their flock."

"I have a burden to teach and preach Jesus Christ so people can learn how to live in this day and age," said Rev. Myers. "As a pastor, I'm determined to let people know they are going to hear the word of God. I want to see a harvest of souls saved like we've never seen. If we don't have souls at the heart of our mission, we may as well lock the church doors and go home."

Since becoming pastor at the Greencastle Church of God, Rev. Myers, who has conducted over 135 weddings, 225 funerals and 95 baby dedications, has been at the forefront of spreading God's word through the creation of ministry teams, Bible studies and countless outreach programs.

"God has been good to us. Proverbs 29:18 says 'where there is no vision the people perish…he that keepeth the law is happy.' British Poet Robert Browning wrote, 'Tis looking downward makes one dizzy, a blind man's world is bounded by the limits of his touch, an ignorant man's world by the limit of knowledge, and a great man's world by his limits of vision.' Let us have no limits because it is so important to teach and preach the word of God."
